The Board

NKF&R’s board is composed of five commissioners. Regular board meetings start at 7:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, and are held in the district’s Paul T. Nichol Headquarters Station (26642 Miller Bay Road NE near Kingston). Members, acting as representatives of the public to oversee management of the fire district, are elected at-large to staggered six-year terms. Current commissioners (with end-date of current term listed in parenthesis) are shown below.

A vacancy resulted from the February 2024 passing of long-time Fire Commissioner Stephen Neupert. NKF&R’s Board of Fire Commissioners is seeking additional applicants to fill the vacant seat. To apply, interested parties must submit a resumé and cover letter by March 27, 2024 at 4 p.m. Learn more about the position and the process here.

Commissioners Meetings

Board of Fire Commissioners meetings regularly start at 7:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month and are held in the district’s Paul T. Nichol Headquarters Station (26642 Miller Bay Road NE near Kingston). The public is always encouraged to attend commissioners’ meetings.

Special Meetings, Public Hearings and Other Notices

Sometimes additional meetings — special meetings — are called to conduct business that doesn’t fit into the regular meeting schedule. For example, special meetings may be called for time-sensitive matters or joint meetings with other government entities.  Unless announced at the beginning of the year with the remainder of the district’s regular meetings, these additional meetings require a public announcement of the agenda at least 24-hours before the planned special meeting.

Public hearings, usually scheduled to deal with budgetary matters, may take place in a regular or special meeting of the Board of Fire Commissioners. Regardless, notice of a public hearing must be posted here and at the district’s headquarters fire station at least ten days in advance of the planned public hearing.
